He was enrolled at the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council to train in the sport professionally at the age of 17 years. Coach Randhir Minhas alias Rajan sir spotted his raw talent. Rajan sir was very much pleased with his bowling skills. He helped him nurture his raw pace bowling to control and channel his action into a lethal fast bowler. He made it possible for his selection in the state team. But he was picked to play eleven.
But we know when there is talent and hard work, it’ll be noticed. This happens while in the nets. The coach of the Assam state team and also the former cricketer Irfan Pathan mentored him and sharpened his skills. And after then he was picked and represented for the Jammu and Kashmir teams in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2020-2021 year. Umran debuted in T20 and represents Jammu and Kashmir State against Railways. He took 3 wickets by giving 24 runs and a made a mark in Indian cricket.
In the year 2020-2021, he represents his state team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He made his List A debut against West Bengal. But he picked only one wicket and gave 93 runs. His fortune turned out in 2021 in Indian Premier League.
