Suryakumar Yadav Bold Decision: In a thrilling third T20I match against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar Yadav made a surprising decision that turned the game around.
The Situation
India had already secured the series with victories in the first two games. In the final T20I, Sri Lanka needed just nine runs from the last two overs. Mohammed Siraj had an over left, and experienced bowler Shivam Dube was yet to bowl.
The Bold Move: Suryakumar Yadav Bold Decision
Handing the Ball to Rinku Singh
Instead of turning to the seasoned bowlers, Suryakumar Yadav handed the ball to Rinku Singh, who had never bowled in international cricket. Despite the risk, the decision paid off. Rinku picked up two crucial wickets, conceding only three runs, leaving Sri Lanka struggling at six down.

Captain’s Gamble Pays Off
Suryakumar himself bowled the final over, taking two wickets on consecutive balls and leading India to victory in the Super Over.
Post-Match Insights
Rinku’s Practice Pays Off
Suryakumar revealed that his decision was based on Rinku’s performance in practice sessions. He believed Rinku’s right-arm off-spin was well-suited to the pitch conditions.
“I felt Rinku was better suited for that wicket because I have seen him bowling and I made him practice a lot at the nets. I felt it was right and that is why I took that call,” said Suryakumar.
Match-Up Strategy
When asked why he didn’t bowl the 19th over himself, Suryakumar cited match-ups and his faith in Rinku’s skills.
“For a right-hander bowling to a left-hander, it is always difficult for the batter. It was great that he made the best use of his skill and made my work easy because now I have one more bowling option going forward,” he added.
Looking Ahead
With this victory, India now prepares for a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, starting August 3 in Colombo. Suryakumar’s bold decision and its successful execution have given India a new bowling option in Rinku Singh for future T20I matches.
