Shreyas Iyer Joins Training Camp: There had been doubts over Shreyas Iyer‘s participation in the initial phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 owing to fitness issues. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain has been suffering from a recurring back injury and even had to receive treatment during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha.

Overcoming Fitness Concerns
There were doubts about Iyer’s availability for the initial stages of the IPL due to his back issues. The 29-year-old had been battling this problem for some time, even receiving treatment during the Ranji Trophy final for Mumbai against Vidarbha. Concerns grew further when he underwent scans for the same problem.
Earlier, during the India-England Test series in Vizag, Iyer complained of back spasms, leading him to miss the next three Tests. Though there was no official announcement regarding his exclusion, Iyer also skipped Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Baroda.

Despite the fitness concerns, Iyer did play Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu, and in the final against Vidarbha, the 29-year-old scored an impressive 95 off 111 deliveries in the second innings.
Joining KKR Camp
In a massive boost for KKR ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Iyer has now joined the team’s pre-season training camp in Kolkata. The team released pictures of their captain showing up in the city, prepared to guide the team in the next season.

Opening Clash
KKR will open their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 23rd. With 12 points from 14 games, the team finished in seventh place last season and was not eligible for the playoffs.
Absence in IPL 2023
Iyer had missed the entire IPL 2023 season due to a back spasm, and KKR were led by Nitish Rana in his absence.
With their captain back in the fold and leading from the front, KKR will be hoping to bounce back strongly and make a mark in the IPL 2024 season.
