Gautam Gambhir Biography: Gautam Gambhir was born on October 14, 1981, is a former Indian cricketer, politician, and philanthropist. He is appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team in all formats on 9th July 2024. He played for India between 2003 and 2016 across all formats and was a member of the 17th Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2024. Gambhir received the Padma Shri in 2019.
As a cricketer, Gambhir was a left-handed opening batsman who played domestically for Delhi and captained Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the IPL. He made his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2003 and his Test debut against Australia in 2004. He captained India in six ODIs from 2010 to 2011, winning all six matches. Gambhir was crucial in India’s victories in the 2007 World Twenty20 and the 2011 Cricket World Cup finals.
Gambhir is notable for scoring hundreds in five consecutive Test matches and for being the only Indian batsman to score over 300 runs in four consecutive Test series. He was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2008 and was the top-ranked ICC Test batsman in 2009, the same year he received the ICC Test Player of the Year award. He retired from cricket in December 2018, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019, and served as a mentor for IPL teams including Lucknow Super Giants (2022-2023) and Kolkata Knight Riders (2024).
